There’s no “I” in team!

I find corporate attempts at being human sickening. All that “There’s no ‘I’ in Team!”, “Teamwork Makes the Dream work!” are all just transparently disingenuous attempts to make you feel the HR cares about you. They do not. HR are corporate militia and will immediately throw you under the bus at the merest provocation. Their attempt at re-framing sick absence as “inefficiency” and the fact that sickness is a disciplinary subject tells you all you need to know.

Teamwork makes the dream work!

Corporate disingenuity.

Verbal diarrhoea fluency.

Mawkishly inane insincerity.

Utterly false camaraderie.

Lacking in any humanity.

Just focussed on profitability,

Or meaningless productivity.

A paucity of humanity.

A massive compassion deficiency.

A scarcity of solidarity.

Indicative of inhumanity.

Vomit-inducing transparency.

I have the cold

and I am more angry and put out about it at this stage than anything else. I was rougher than a badgers hole with it last week but thankfully have an option to work from home which meant I didn’t have to lose any time off work which is great because I am agency staff and we don’t get sick pay. Or, you know, rights.

The muse hasn’t been busying herself with me so here’s a whinge about having the cold:

The Cold

Having a cold

Is a pain in the hole

Utterly inconvenient

Not to say utterly uninvited

The nerve of it.

Infiltrating my life

Affecting everything I do

The brass neck. The unearned entitlement.

That’s as good as I can manage from my office desk and two Lemsips deep.

IN OTHER NEWS

I joined Faber and Fabers poetry book club where they send you a book of contemporary poetry every month. The editions really are quite beautiful in a utilitarian way. So far I have Christopher Reids “Ordinary Morning Sunlight” and Jana Prikryl “The Channel”. I’ll llet you know what I think.

There’s actually a few I’d like to share with you. Particularly Stephen de Burca’s “Atlantic Fret” which is amazing. Stephen ran the Starts and Beginnings workshop I recently attended which I thoroughly loved.

Anyway, I’m off to sneeze and cough my way through the rest of the afternoon.

Take care!
