The Doldrums

You know those moods that you get into and you cannot shake? I’m in one now, although I know it will pass.

However I’ve re-written the Beatitudes in a fit of pique. It’s all very well saying “You’ll have your reward in heaven” and “It’s easier for a rich man to fit through the eye of a needle” when you’re saying it from one of your yachts on the way to one of your mansions on one of your Islands.

The Doldrums

Cursed be the poor of bank account.

They shall keep generating late fees

Cursed be those who mourn

They will die too.

Cursed be the petro-chemical industry

For they will pollute the land

Cursed are the meek

They will continue to be walked over.

Cursed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness

They will largely be ignored.

Cursed are the merciful

They will be taken advantage of.

Cursed are the clean in heart

That gets them nowhere.

Cursed are the peacemakers

For always needing warmongers.

Cursed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness.

There’s a long list of them and it gets ever longer.
